Great English Speakers and Clean:
Singapore used to be a British colony- which is good news for travellers because the standard of English is Singapore is the same (or even better) than most Native speaking English countries. I also personally find that Singaporeans are very nice people. The cleanliness of Singapore is beautiful and amazing. People take pride in keeping Singapore clean and showing of their Island to tourists. However, tourists please be mindful that if you litter (including spitting and other body things) you will be liable for a hefty fine.
Changi Airport
I could easily go to Singapore and spend days in the airport. Even if I was like Tom Hanks in that movie where he was stuck in an airport... well Changi Airport would be the one airport in the world that I'd choose to be stuck in.
Everyone is friendly and the airport staff really care about keeping you feeling relaxed and occupied during layover times. I suggest you Google "changi airport" and have a look at the facilities which range from free block buster movies to a swimming pool. However, I want to talk to you today about the Free Singapore Tour at Changi Airport.
Free Singapore tour at Changi Airport
First of all, what a great idea! The tour runs for two hours. You must book at least one hour in advance, and know that Changi Airport has times listed on its website for which the tours start at regular intervals throughout the day. On the tour you get to see all the major sites of Singapore Island, with free snacks and water. You even get a chance to get off the bus for a little while and stretch your legs. After the tour is finished you are dropped off at the airport.
This is a great thing for people intending to stay in Singapore for a longer holiday as it will get them acquainted with all the main sites of Singapore Island for free... However, it is also good for people like me, who travel a lot and often have long layover times- because it gets you out of the airport and seeing some beautiful historic sites!
Other travel expenses
Singapore's Transportation
Tourists can get a special transportation discount ticket which is I think around 8-12 dollars per day (but double check). Of course you will need to show your passport for identification, but it's very easy to get this ticket at any of the transportation information/ payment counters.
Due to the efficiency and ease of Singapores public transportation system, I think public transportation is a low cost and stress free alternative to catching taxis.
Singapores Food
Depending on your budget, Singapore has a lot to offer in terms of food. Eating at restaurants can get very expensive. But what I usually do is find a hotel that includes free breakfasts, then eat most of the time on the street. Singapore's street food is clean, and it will give you a chance to experience Singapore like a native Singaporean- not a tourist. So don't be afraid. I also then treat myself to one or two more expensive restaurant experiences.
